CMS Content Management Systems
Web Design With a
Content Management System (CMS)
You care about this if: “I want control of my website.” and or “I want to do my own website edits.”
A Website Content Management System (CMS) is a web base hosted software system that provides website editing via a website interface with no special software. This means that you only need internet access to edit your website. All the tools for website changes are programed into your site. I.e. You have a website AND you have a web editor built in.
Believe it or not, a CMS application used to cost about $20K-45K to have. Now, with open source, the software in many cases is free. However, unless you have a zillion hours to learn the setup and how to customize it, free kind of goes out the window; but it’s still much more affordable then it used to be.
CMS applications come with administration tools designed to allow users with little knowledge of web programming languages or markup languages to create and manage website content with relative ease. CMS websites are ideal for organizations that require multiple authors for content submitter’s, like schools, churches, large organizations and nonprofits.
A VERY IMPORTANT THING TO CONSIDER WITH CMS WEBSITES: CMS or any database driven websites require some maintenance from professional web developers or at least really smart web designers. If security updates are not meant and database volume control is not managed, it will cost you money and or worst, a hacking invasion. Don’t get a CMS website unless you’ve worked out a plan for this. All KO websites hosted with KO are taken care of. Meaning that we watch for and take care of all updates in a timely manor.
